THE STAR 430 HANDPIECE WAS DESIGNED AS LUBRICATION FREE HANDPIECE. THIS DESIGN CREATES SOME MAINTENANCE PROBLEMS.

First, the bearings do no last as long as typical handpiece due to heat that the handpiece creates during dental use. A dental office can get as much as 33% more life from there handpieces if they lubricate and run 10 seconds of air through the handpiece prior to sterilization. You must use lubrication each time that you sterilize or the bearings will fail more quickly if lubrication is not continued.
Also, if you take the time to use bags and put paper side up during sterilization you can get an additional 25% more life out of your repairs. Make sure when that you use the handpiece setting on you sterilization equipment which is no higher than 135 Celsius. The wrong setting will cut the time of your repair life in half.
Lastly, you must make sure your air pressure is set correctly. Star 430 should run at 32 PSI. If the pressure is set higher than again you will be shortening the life of your handpieces.
